Thollon Les Mémises

The village of Thollon Les Mémises is typical of the Haute Savoie. Below are descriptions of what is in the village and a photograph to help you identify them when you're there.

Thollon-Les-Mémises is a small, friendly, family oriented resort located on a plateau 1,000m above the south (French side) shore of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman).  The village's position offers quite stunning panoramic views from Lausanne (opposite shore), Geneva at the west end of the lake (on a clear day) to Montreux at the east end of the lake with the Rochers De Naye peak. The Jura mountains provide the backdrop to virtually the full length of the lake.

The village itself has a picturesque church (pictured right) and is friendly and typically Alpine in views and attitudes.

The views are "simply stunning" and Thollon-les-Mémises is known as "Le Balcon du Léman" (Balcony of Lake Geneva) and is a must see for locals as well as holiday makers.  Once you take the télécabine/cable car to the top of the Mémises range (at 1500 metres) you will see why.....Wow!

Thollon-les-Mémises is a peaceful, rural village, with a warm and friendly population that makes it the ideal place to get away from it all and relax.  It has a welcoming community with a full program of events and activities laid on each week during the holiday periods such as visits to a local vineyard in Marin and traditional wood carving in Evian.  Details can be found in the Tourist Information Office, located next to the main car park.

Parapenting at ThollonAs well as being a popular winter destination for skiing, Thollon-les-Mémises is also a popular summer resort.  The ski lifts are open daily throughout July and August (weekends during most other months) for easy access to mountain walks, mountain bike trails, and for the more adventurous, the parapenting launch site (see right).

The village has a good range of shops (see here) for stocking up on provisions, ski gear and gifts - and more importantly - an excellent selection of family friendly restaurants and bars (see here), for when you'd prefer to avoid the kitchen.

While Thollon-les-Mémises has plenty to keep you occupied, the village is also an ideal base for exploring Lake Geneva and the French and Swiss Alps.  There are a wide variety of attractions and sights around Thollon-les-Mémises, many within an hours drive from the village. For longer (2 hour) drives you can be in Chamonix, Italy or even Monte Carlo within 4 hours.  In fact there is so much to do that you will come away wishing you had taken more time to fully explore the area.
