Directions

By Road
By car from Paris, Lyon or Annecy.  Take the motorway towards Geneva, exit at Annemasse and follow the signs to Thonon/Evian and then to Thollon les Mémises. If you are coming from Switzerland, go to Montreux, then St-Gingolph, Lugrin and follow the signs to Thollon les Mémises.

Visit www.viamichelin.co.uk for accurate route planning.  This site will also calculate your toll costs (around 65 euros each way) and cost of fuel - so worth a visit whether your driving from the UK or mainland Europe.

If you are driving on Swiss motorways, you will need a vignette, a 'pass' to drive on the Swiss motorways which cost around 40euros for the year.  No pass and the police may stop and fine you.  If you have SatNav, chose the option (if available) to avoid motorways once you enter Switzerland as the non-motorways are free.

Trains
By train to Evian les Bains (TGV). Evian les Bains is about 9 kms from Thollon les Mémises. At the railway station you can take a bus or taxi.

By Air

Geneva Airport is about 60 kms from Thollon les Mémises - around 1 hour and 30 minutes travel time.  There are several low budget airlines flying to Geneva such as EasyJet, BMIbaby and Jet2 as well as the main airlines such as British Airways and Swiss Air.  Visit www.skyscanner.net which will seek all the best prices.

During the winter ski season, some UK airlines also fly to Grenoble and Chamberay - both around 2 hours drive from Thollon and may be a cheaper alternative airport.

If hiring a car from Geneva airport, please be aware you can hire cars from the Swiss side or the French side.  The French side is usually cheaper.  When returning to the airport, don't head for the airport as this will take you to the Swiss side and your car rental company will charge you a return fee.  Head for a place called Ferney Voltaire or set your SatNav for this destination.  Click here for a map of the route back to the French side of the airport (MAP).  If you hire on the Swiss side, then just follow the signs!

Important - There is no direct public transport links to Thollon Les Mémises.  You can hire a car and drive direct, otherwise you can take a train to Evian and then a taxi from the train station to the village is around 25 euros.  You can also hire a car at Evian train station if you wish.  Evian is around a 15 minute car journey from Thollon and it is all up hill! so do not try to cycle or walk it!.
